Friday afternoon, temperatures in capital Bucharest and the southeast of the country will reach 38-39 degrees Celsius and the heat index, which combines air temperature and relative humidity to determine the felt air temperature, will exceed the critical threshold of 80.

Hill and mountain regions might see heavy rain, thunderstorms, gusty wind and even hail, despite the scorching heat.

The initial advisory, issued Wednesday, was set to expire Saturday.
