The opinion poll indicates that, when it comes to the category of “the best political leader in the last century,” things have changed significantly since 1999 until 2007, given the appearance of Traian Basescu on the Romanian political stage, who ranks second in the classification.
If in 1999, 22% of Romanians considered Ceausescu as the best political leader in the last century, Ceausescu gained only 1% in 2007.
In exchange, President Traian Basescu, who was not included in this classification in 1999, now ranks second with 15% at the category of “the best political leader in the last century.”
Romania’s former President Ion Iliescu, who gained 9% in this classification in 1999, lost 2% in 2007, thus reaching only 7%.
The opinion poll conducted by the Soros Foundation also presents the top of the worst political leaders.
Ceausescu remains on top at this category. Unlike 1999 when he gained 22%, now he reached 24%.
Basescu was also included in the top of the worst political leaders, ranking fourth with 5%.
The opinion poll was conduced during October 10 – 22, 2007, on a sample of 2000 people with a margin of error of +/- 2.2%.
