The amendment reverses a recent change to the referendum law whereby the head of state may be removed from office with the majority of all eligible voters in the country.
In the document obtained by MEDIAFAX, the Government points out that this change has already been debated and approved by the Constitutional Court in 2007, when the principle of majority of participants in the referendum was first introduced.
The Constitutional Court will convene Friday morning to rule on the government coalition’s request to suspend President Basescu. The two houses of Parliament will meet at 5 p.m. to debate and vote on the request.
