Constanta Casino Rehabilitation Works Set to Begin after Several Failed Auctions
Constanta Mayor Decebal Fagadau announced in press conference held at the defunct Constanta Casino that the city hall will hand over the historical monument to the National Investments Company (CNI) and a constructor for rehabilitation works, after years of failed auctions for the objective.

According to the mayor, the rehabilitation project will cost RON94 million.
“The casino will finally be rehabilitated after the fourth attempt, after a long chain of challenges and assumptions and non-assumptions. (…) The rehabilitation works will be strictly managed by CNI, but everything around it will be performed by the municipality. We will begin consolidating the dams and a new waterfront. Around May 1, we will assemble a Ferris wheel to allow people to observe the restoration process, the waterway, the sea and the port,” said Fagadau.
Efforts to restore the historical monument were launched in 2014, but three consecutive state auctions for a constructor were nullified by courts following challenges from participating companies. The building was entered into the Europa Nostra 7 Most Endangered Heritage Sites program in 2018. A fourth auction was completed in 2019 and also challenged in courts, but the company who filed the said challenge withdrew it towards the end of last year.
