Romanian Leu Opens Higher Vs Euro On Positive Sentiment

The Romanian leu opened higher against the euro Friday, amid high traded volumes, in line with the positive trend of currencies in emerging markets.

The leu opened at RON3.7740 against the euro, down from Thursday’s closing value.

"The Romanian leu appreciates on the backdrop of slight enthusiasm triggered by the positive trend on U.S. Stock Exchange Thursday. The traded volumes are high, and the leu is following the regional increasing trend," a dealer at a Bucharest-based bank said.

Then, after GMT 0700, the leu was trading at RON3.7655 to the euro, a trend similar to that of currencies on emerging markets, dealers said.

On the monetary market Thursday overnight rates were at 16.53-28.31%.

Thursday, the leu closed at RON3.7950/3.8040, against the euro, lower compared with RON3.8040/RON3.8070in the previous session.
