However, the court’s ruling is not final, and thus, it can be appealed.

Mazare said in a press conference that, in August 2006, the IGPR website presented a press statement reading that he was accused, alongside other public servants, of allegedly assigning preferential contracts from public funds, which caused damages worth over EUR6 million.

At that time, Mazare dismissed allegations as ungrounded and decided to file legal proceedings against IGPR.

According to Mazare, late last year the Constanţa Courthouse ruled in favor of Mazare forcing IGPR to pay the plaintiff moral damages worth RON50.000.
Police sources said that IGPR would definitely appeal the court’s ruling.
