The new measure was approved through government decision and is based on the fact that, of a total 307,505 traders supposed to decide by March 17, 2009 whether they will continue their commercial activities, only 25.4% expressed interest in this respect.

The government said it also considered the current conditions of the economic crisis before taking this measure.

In April 2008, the government decided through an emergency decree that authorized individuals and family enterprises can continue commercial activities for another year, until April 25, 2009, based on the registration certificate issued by the Trade Registry Office, and compelled them to decide during this period whether they will continue commercial activities as authorized individuals, individual enterprises or as members of family enterprises.

Under the ordinance, the parties involved, and which had not decided on the continuation of commercial activities by the deadline, would be removed from the registry without any other formality.
