The plant’s owner informed employees last week that the plant would restart operations as of Monday due to the favorable evolution of the foreign fertilizers market and the anti-crisis program set up by the Government.

The management stated the operations would resume due to the subsidizing of agricultural fertilizers by the state and because the agricultural works should start in February.

On December 1, 2008, Azomures temporarily halted its production and put the 2,000 employees on technical unemployment, besides the 250 employees already laid off on November 12, due to lower demand of chemical fertilizers and lower products prices.

The plant was privatized in 1998, being majority owned by Luxemburg-registered Transworld Fertilizers Holding, with a 56% stake.
