"The Commission has doubts that the aid would determine a supplementary training than the one Ford would usually do in the absence of the aid. The investigation would offer the parts the possibility to present observations regarding the measure,” the EC said in a statement Wednesday.
European commissioner for competition Neelie Kroes said that the Commission must be sure that the public funds are for supplementary training and do not cover big companies’ operational expenses.
In September last year, Ford agreed to pay EUR57 million for a 72.4% stake in Romania’s Automobile Craiova assembly plant and pledged to invest another EUR675 million to upgrade the plant.
