Basescu told a press conference that six projects targeting various sectors were adopted, stressing they will be co-financed by the European Union and the private sector.

"I want to encourage economic operators to move forward without any fear, as the European Union and the Mediterranean Union are both watching over them. It would be bad for Romanian companies, which have been privatized, not to resume business operations on these markets as soon as possible," said Basescu, adding he will pass this message to the Romanian government and the Chamber of Commerce and further on towards the Romanian companies.

Basescu made public the six joint projects adopted within the Summit, which target the reduction in pollution in the Mediterranean area, the maritime and terrestrial highways to secure traffic and ease commercial exchanges; civil protection; alternative energy sources; the Euro-Mediterranean university and the setting up of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
