More than half of the cars sold, namely 5,193 units, are Dacia make, followed by Renault and Nissan, which sold together 1,040 units.

Through the “Junk Car” program, Romania aims to replace 60,000 old cars in its national fleet by the end of 2009, in a move to reduce pollution and boost the car industry.

The authorities offer a scrap bonus of 3,800 lei (EUR1=RON4.1725) per vehicle to car owners who wish to trade their old cars for new ones.
