Romania Does Not Restrict Private Visits Of Hungarian Officials – FM
Mazuru met Tuesday with Hungary’s ambassador to Bucharest, Oskar Fuzes, to talk about Hungarian officials’ private visits to Romania. The Romanian authorities were asked to explain their position on Hungarian President Laszlo Solyom’s visit last week.
The Romanian official stressed the fact that the strategic partnership between Romania and Hungary implies mutual trust and permanent co-ordination.
The Hungarian president had planned to visit Transylvania on the celebration of the national day of Hungary. His visit stirred up controversy, including the Romanian authorities’ refusal to allow the presidential plane to land at Targu Mures airport and Romanian accusations that the visit was connected to self-governing claims in the County of Harghita.
Laszlo Solyom claimed Saturday evening, before leaving back for Hungary, that the refusal to grant landing permission was a “curious, hostile and unfriendly gesture” on the part of Romania.
