Romanian Govt Postpones Approving Wage Law For Wednesday Over Lack Of OK From Econ Council

The Government will discuss this year’s second budget revision in Monday’s Cabinet meeting.

The Executive planned to approve the unitary wage law Monday and send it to Parliament immediately in view of seeking a confidence vote to pass it into legislation. However, the bill has to get a stance from the Economic and Social Council after no agreement could be reached with unions.

According to the bill, wages in the public sector are to increase 15% next year and will still remain lower than this summer, when the Executive cut a quarter of state workers’ pay. People close to Cabinet talks on the bill quoted the prime minister as saying the minimum wage would be increased to 670 lei (EUR1=RON4.2972) from the current RON600.
