Craiova Hospital Fined For Not Having Security Cameras Turned On During Incident

Dolj Police spokesperson Cosmin Gradinaru told MEDIAFAX that the hospital was fined for not respecting legal provisions requiring permanent video surveillance of public institutions. A police investigation revealed that the security cameras near the incident’s area were found offline.

Hospital manager Eugen Georgescu confirmed that cameras were offline at the time of the incident and said that the hospital had not been notified by its private security firm about the issue.

“We do not know why they were not functioning, maybe negligence. The cameras were installed by a company, and monitoring is done by the security firm. The security firm should have sent a written notification that they do not work. They did it verbally, but words fly,” Georgescu told MEDIAFAX.

The manager also said that the hospital intends to sue the security firm.

A 39-year old inebriated driver crashed his car into the hospital’s Emergency Admissions Unit on Saturday night. The culprit provided conflicting accounts of the incident, stating that he confused the car’s break and acceleration pedals, but also that he was discontent as he had earlier come at the hospital with a child and he had to wait a long time to be checked.

According to the doctor on call that night, two of the hospital’s staff were slightly injured in the incident.
