The leu opened at RON4.28/RON4.2850 versus euro, weaker compared with RON4.2820/RON4.2880 to the euro at the end of Thursday’s trading session.

In the first trading hours, the leu followed a descending trend against the European currency and touched an early low at RON4.2930/RON4.2980 to the euro at around GMT 0810.

The leu depreciates due to a high euro demand and was not influenced by data regarding inflation in January or the 2008 current account deficit published earlier Thursday, a dealer said.

The central bank computed Wednesday a daily indicative of the leu at RON4.2729 to the euro, weaker than Tuesday’s exchange rate.
