Basescu said his reasons for attending are his “sentimental connection” to PDL and the fact that PDL is a ruling party (Prime Minister Emil Boc is the president of PDL).
Basescu said he unreservedly supports the Government in its efforts to overcome the crisis without economic or social failures. He told the Democratic Liberals that they have no right to act as an Opposition party and that the current crisis is no excuse for the slowing down of the reforms included in the Party objectives.
President Basescu reminded PDL members they have to develop, support and approve three laws: the law of wages in the public sector, the law of pensions and fiscal liability. He said that the only way for Romania to come out of the crisis is for everyone to work together. Basescu said he was optimistic that by the end of June the economy would resume its growth.
Basescu wished the members of PDL good luck in the European Parliament elections, adding “You are the only Party which does not insult its president.”
The PDL candidates’ inauguration began Sunday at noon, at Sala Palatului in Bucharest, with the slogan “In good times and in bad”, and is attended by 7,000 delegates from all over the country.
The event is expected to last around two hours.
