Accident-Free Romanian Drivers To Pay Less For Insurance In 2010

„For drivers who made no claims in 2009, the RCA policy premium will be 10% cheaper compared to the one reported to the Commission. This bonus can reach 50% if the driver made no RCA claims in the last seven years. On the other hand, if the driver made a claim in 2009, the RCA premium will cost 45% more and may reach 200% if the driver has been involved in two accidents,” Toncescu said.

She added that statistics show only 10% of drivers holding RCA policies are involved in car accidents.

„The bonus-malus system will favor the 90% who are disciplined in traffic and drive carefully, thereby avoiding involvement in car accidents,” Toncescu said.

According to the bonus-malus system, a client receives a discount on the insurance premium (bonus) if he/she has made no damage claims in the previous year, or suffers an increase in the premium (malus) otherwise.

In 2008, RCA policy premiums for natural persons totaled 795.2 million lei (EUR1=RON4.2928).
