„I want to encourage Romgaz to start making electricity, the same as Petrom, to invest together with partners,” Videanu told a seminar organized by business daily Ziarul Financiar.

Romania’s largest oil company OMV Petrom (SNP.RO), controlled by Austria’s OMV, has entered the power generation sector, saying it plans to make the transition from a pure oil and gas company to an energy player.

Videanu invited investors to join Romgaz in electricity projects.

Romgaz, which is the largest Romanian gas producer, announced two years ago an intention to enter the electricity production market, but a move is pending.
