"Ford Motor Company wishes to acquire the car factory in Craiova. We await a decision from the European Commission regarding the privatization process before the end of this month. We are interested in talking with Romanian authorities on the car tax, depending on the developments in this, with respect for environmental protection. Ford wishes it products to become sustainable through the reduction, in time, of their impact on the environment, but durable development implies the contribution of several actors, such as the automotive industry, the oil industry, the government and consumers," Ford Motor Company representatives told MEDIAFAX.
The privatization for the car factory in Craiova was concluded with Ford in September 2007, but the European Commission has not yet approved the transaction.
Local carmaker Dacia officials refused to comment on Vosganian’s statements, but said that Dacia-Renault projects remain unchanged.
"Renault and Dacia announced their plans for Romania. We have no comments regarding minister Vosganian’s statements," Dacia communication director Liviu Ion told MEDIAFAX.
Vosganian said Thursday that Ford would no longer come to Romania and Renault would move production towards the east if the Romanian registration tax for cars is eliminated.
