Drought Not To Affect Water Resources This Year – Romanian Official

Drought will not affect Romania in July and August as severely as last year and the country has sufficient water resources, Marius Postelnicescu, head of Romania’s National Water Administration, said Thursday.

Postelnicu also said talks on exploiting the main water resources are held monthly with the representatives in the energy sector.
 
Nevertheless, certain areas in Romania are still facing problems with the irrigation system due to scorching temperatures and the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Land Improvement Administration (ANIF) must invest in the water supply in these areas to feed the irrigation system.
 
Romania’s 2007 cereal crop nearly halved on the year, to some 3 million tons, due to scorching temperatures that affected the country.
