The railway company said in a press release the ticket price hike is part of its rebound strategy. It said costs for various materials it needs, such as fuel, electricity and spare parts, have increased since CFR last raised ticket prices in September 2010.

Romania’s Government has recently changed the way train and subway ticket prices are computed, to allow the transport operators to raise prices by more than the rate of inflation, as per the country’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund. The country’s subway company Metrorex raised ticket prices last week.
