Czech President Vaclav Klaus Visits Romania Next Week, Meets President Basescu

Czech President Vaclav Klaus will visit Romania next week, on Dec 10 and 11, for a working breakfast with Romanian President Traian Basescu and a lunch with the main Czech investors in Romania and Romania’s central bank governor Mugur Isarescu, the Czech Embassy to Bucharest told MEDIAFAX Friday.

During his visit to Romania, the Czech official will attend a ceremony during which he will be made Doctor Honoris Causa by the Romanian Christain University "Dimitrie Cantemir". Klaus will also hold a lecture on the subject “EU, global warming, current economic crisis".
 
According to the website of the Romanian Foreign Ministry, Romania and Czechoslovakia established diplomatic relations on April 6, 1919, and on December 18, 1992, Romania was among the first states to recognize the Czech Republic as independent and sovereign state, following the division of Czechoslovakia, effective as of January 1, 1993.
 
Since then, Czech heads of state visited Romania three times, in 1994, 2000 and 2006, while Romanian heads of state vested the Czech Republic in 1997 and 2004.
