Romania Transp Min Official: Certified Driving Instructors To Be Licensed Under New Rules

According to Pistru, there are many driving instructors who do not pay taxes to the state budget.

The methodological norms to be drafted within the Social Dialogue Committee will set separate license terms for driving schools and driving instructors.

To be licensed, driving instructors must have worked at least three years within a driving school.

Over 200 Romanian independent driving instructors from all over the country are protesting in front of Transport Ministry building, urging the Romanian Road Authority (ARR) to annul the decision that bans driving schools from working with them.

The head of the National Union of Driving Instructors in Romania (SNIAR), Cornel Lipa, said protests would continue next week unless the authority solves their problems.

Protesters are displaying banners saying "Labor right cannot be restricted," "notary public =freelancer, lawyer = freelancer, licensed driving instructor = slave," "park watchman – RON7.9/hour, driving school instructor -RON5 or RON6/hour," "Don’t cut hour hands, don’t export us, we have families."

Provision no. 15507/03.06.2009 of the Romanian Road Authority compelled all driving schools to immediately end any collaboration with independent driving instructors (authorized private individuals), with whom they worked under contracts, according to valid legislation. Following this abuse, 4,500 authorized and independent driving instructors are jobless.
