Thus, overdue retail loans exceeding 90 days totaled RON1.42 billion end-May, up 10.1% on the month, and almost triple on the year.
The number of persons failing to pay their installments to banks for a period exceeding 30 days rose to 584,836, from 395,956 in May 2008.
The total number of overdue loans also rose from 806,086 in April to 858,539 in May.
In May, the number of persons with overdue loans of minimum RON20,000 rose 8% on the month, exceeding for the first time the 200,000 threshold, representing around 20% of the total debtors, including both individuals and firms.
Thus, the number of individuals and legal entities late payers reached 200,191 in May, almost double from 100,676 in May 2008, and 44% higher compared with the end of last year.
The late payments of individuals and companies’ loans totaled RON5.56 billion at the end of May, up 10.4% compared with April, and more than triple on the year, increasing their weight in the total loans to 2.78%.
