Steaua “is free of guilt,” Becali mentioned.

“The penalties against Steaua and Universitatea Cluj are cancelled, as well as the decision to ban Gigi Becali from entering stadiums for two years; Becali still has a six-month suspension, during which he is not allowed to go to the lockers, to represent his club. In addition, Petre Marin (Steaua’s defender – e.n.) is no longer suspended,” Becali said Thursday.

He mentioned nothing about Universitatea’s player Gigel Coman, who was also suspended for six months by FRF’s disciplinary commission.

Early June, Steaua were docked seven points by the FRF after officials and players were found guilty of corruption charges, but the deduction meant Steaua still finished second in the country’s first league and are eligible to play in the third qualifying round of next season’s Champions League.

The Romanian anti-corruption prosecutors launched a criminal probe into Steaua owner Gigi Becali and Universitatea Cluj president Anton Dobos.

Prosecutors accused Becali of offering EUR1.7 million euros to Dobos and several players to do their utmost to stop title contenders CFR Cluj in the last round of the season in May.

All have denied any wrongdoing.
