The Romanian Army will send 1,902 soldiers on foreign missions and operations in 2019, 127 more than this year, while the Interior Ministry will also send 759 of its personnel.
The bulk of the forces will contribute to NATO Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, while other forces will also join the NATO presence in Poland. Some Romanian forces will also be present in NATO operations in the Western Balkans, especially in Kosovo.
For the first time, a Romanian military helicopter squadron will take part in the UN integrated multidimensional stabilization mission in the Republic of Mali, where they will perform missions involving medical evacuation, troop and equipment transport and will provide support for UN personnel in the country.
During Wednesday’s meeting, CSAT also approved a plan to establish a new NATO multi-national division in the country, decided at the July NATO Summit in Brussels, the establishment of a new Cybernetic Defense Command within the remit of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the CSAT activity schedule for 2019.
The council also approved the Government’s 2019 budget proposals for institutions with national security attributions.
