Nobel Literature Prize Winner Herta Muller To Visit Bucharest Sept 27- 28
The announcement was made Saturday by Humanitas Fiction director Denisa Comanescu, at the fifth edition of Romanian book fair Bookfest, at the launch of Herta Müller’s book „Leaganul respiratiei”.
„Leaganul respiratiei”, launched Saturday, „Calatorie intr-un picior”, to be launched on September 28, and „Omul e un mare fazan pe lume” (working title) are included in the new Herta Muller series.
Herta Muller was born on August 17, 1953, in Nitchidorf, near western Romanian city Timisoara. Since she moved to Germany, Muller received multiple German and international awards, including the Ricarda Huch Award (1987), Kleist (1994) and Joseph Breitbach (2003), the European Aristeion Award (1995) and IMPAC Dublin Literary Award (1998). Starting with 1999, she was a three times nominee for Germany on the list of the Nobel Prize for literature.
Humanitas publishing house founded in 1990 by Gabriel Liiceanu became, in 20 years, the Humanitas Group, a cultural holding formed of the publishing houses Humanitas, Humanitas Fiction, Humanitas Multimedia (leader on the Romanian audiobook market), as well as the Humanitas Bookstores, a chain that includes 16 bookstores.
Humanitas will organize, throughout the year 2010, a series of events dedicated to its 20th anniversary, including book and audio book launches and photo galleries.
The fifth edition of Romanian book fair Bookfest, which takes place at Romexpo in Bucharest between June 9 and 13, opened Wednesday in the presence of Romanian Editors’ Association president Grigore Arsene and Spanish Ambassador Estanislao de Grandes Pascual.
