Romanian Voluntary Lifeguards To Watch Over Seaside Tourists This Weekend
Gabriel Culea, coordinator of the lifeguard service in Mamaia seaside resort, said that, although temperatures are low during this period and the seawater is very cold, young people will probably dip into the Black Sea waters for a swim.
Culea said beaches will be divided into several sectors and each lifeguard will watch over a certain beach sector. He added that lifeguards will try to convince youngsters not to swim in the cold water and, if they fail to do that, they will be on the alert to prevent any unfortunate situations.
Culea also stressed that lifeguards’ actions during the weekend are purely voluntary, as the contract regulating lifeguard services in Mamaia resort will be signed only after August 15.
Over 12,000 tourists are expected to spend this weekend on the Romanian seaside. Local and central authorities have prepared several entertaining events for the weekend.
