Local Authorities In W Romania Call For EUR10M EU Funds For Solar Street Lighting

Local authorities in Arad, western Romania, will apply for European Union non-refundable financing worth EUR10 million for a project meant to install solar lamps across the city for eco-friendly street lighting during the night.

The project will use LED solar street lighting systems and targets to extend solar street lighting from the outskirts towards the city beltway, 70 playgrounds, pedestrian alleys and a bicycle runway that is to be built.

Arad mayor Corina Draghici said the new system will save the electricity obtained from classic pollution sources.

The feasibility study for the project was finalized and is pending approval by local councilors.

The mayoralty will apply for EU non-refundable financing via the Regional Operational Program 2007-2010, part of the financing sector „Capitalizing renewable energy sources to produce green energy.”
