Franks was speaking ahead of a meeting with Romanian Finance Minister Sebastian Vladescu.

Romanian media recently presented several scenarios regarding possible increases of the value added tax and of the flat tax rate aimed at boosting government revenue and keeping the budget deficit under control.

However, no agreement has been reached, participants in the talks between Romanian and IMF officials said.

„Some of the media scenarios are being discussed, but others are not,” Vladescu said in turn.

Government sources told MEDIAFAX earlier today that the central bank opposes any tax increases, because such a measure would offset economic revival.

On the other hand, the IMF is against dropping the flat tax and the reintroduction of the progressive taxation.
