Romanian Prosecutor Heads Roll In Convict Escape Aftermath

The prosecutors section of the High Council of Magistrates based the decision on article 51, paragraph 2, letter b of Law 303/2004, which states such measures are taken in matters involving poor management conduct.

The decision becomes effective immediately and can be challenged within 15 days.

The dismissals came in the aftermath of an inspection of the causes that led to the temporary release from prison of Serghei Gorbunov who is now suspect in a double homicide case. 

Two people were shot dead and a third was injured during the armed robbery last Thursday at a currency exchange office in the center of Brasov.

The attacker managed to steal a bag of money from the two exchange office employees, which he later abandoned in the street and fled the scene.

One of the suspects in the attack was Serghei Gorbunov, who recently benefited form a temporary release from prison on medical grounds. Gorbunov never returned to prison.

Later, Gorbunov’s sparring partner told police the suspect was in the gym at the time of the armed robbery.
