According to the procedure, the general prosecutor is appointed by the President of Romania, at the proposition of the Ministry of Justice, with the consultative approval of the High Council of Magistrates.

Laura Codruta Kovesi was appointed general prosecutor of Romania on October 2, 2006, through a presidential decree.

Predoiu said Thursday, before the members of the High Council of Magistrates, that the general prosecutor needs to be determined, courageous and to have a vision, a good team player and one who is respected by the system but who can say „no” when the system makes mistakes.
