Romanian Firefighter Dies While Fighting Fire At Commercial Center

A Romanian firefighter died Wednesday morning crushed under an iron framework during operations to put out a fire that burst at a commercial center at the outskirts of capital Bucharest.

Seven firefighters were injured and were rushed to the Floreasca emergency hospital, while five others were poisoned with smoke.

Bucharest Emergency Situation Inspectorate spokeswoman Anca Onofrei said the firefighter who died was crushed under an iron framework, while he was trying to save an injured colleague.

Onofrei told MEDIAFAX that commercial center Red Dragon burst into flames at 4.30 a.m. and the fire extended rapidly. About 120 firefighters struggled to put out the fire.
