Asked about the investigation of Foreign Affairs Ministry following the events in the case of Claudiu Crulic, a Romanian who died in Poland following an ignored hunger strike, Comanescu pointed out a series of irregularities and flaws in handling the case.

Romanian President Traian Basescu said early May on the national radio station RRA that Bartas never mentioned in monthly reports the case of the Romanian national Claudiu Crulic who died in a Polish hospital after he went on hunger strike, protesting against his arrest for alleged theft.

Therefore, the president said the ambassador should “come home and end all ties with diplomacy,” adding the measures taken by Comanescu in the case of Romanian ambassador to Warsaw are “childish,” as he was only sanctioned with a wage cut of 10% for three months.
