Ukraine Requests Closing Of Crossing Points On Romanian Border Over Flu Epidemic

Authorities in the Ukrainian region of Chernivtsi have requested several crossing points on the borders with Romania and the Republic of Moldova be closed, because of the risk of spread of the flu epidemic, according to news agency Omega.

„We have already petitioned the border guard service and requested the closing of crossing points on the border with the Republic of Moldova and Romania, in places where a medical examination cannot be performed,” Chernivitsi Oblast governor Volodymyr Kulish said.

Moldova Border Guard Service spokesman Dumitru Osoianu said the crossing points between Moldova and Ukraine have not been closed, but are running normally. According to Osoianu, medical examinations are performed at every location.

According to the Ukrainian News Agency, Ukrainian authorities have confirmed 60 fatalities because of flu and breathing infections in the Oblasts of Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv and Volyn.

Most deaths occurred in the Lvov Oblast, where 29 people died.
