E.ON Gaz Romania Sees Imported Gas Prices Up To $600 Per 1,000CBM By Yearend

E.On Gaz Romania deems necessary a 24% increase of gas prices delivered to population by July 1.

E.ON Gaz requested Romania’s Energy Authority ANRE to increase as of July 1, gas prices delivered to population by 24%, up five percentage points over the initial request.

E.ON had initially requested a 19% increase of prices, one percentage point higher compared with the 18% request made by Distrigaz Sud.

Romanian gas distributor Distrigaz Sud said last week the natural gas prices should rise by 22% as of July 1, pointing out the costs settled by ANRE do not cover the company’s expenses.

ANRE said last week the gas prices delivered to population should not increase over 20% by July 1.

Distrigaz Sud said that 67% of the gas consumed countrywide comes from domestic output and 33% from import.

Romanian economy and finance minister Varujan Vosganian has recently said the natural gas prices on the domestic market are influenced by the international prices but the consumers should be protected.

The last price increase of natural gas delivered to population was made on February 2, when prices rose 8.5%.

E.ON Gaz Romania, provides natural gas to nearly 1.3 million clients in 20 counties and has a distribution network of 18,000 kilometers long.

E.ON reported a net profit of EUR30.9 million last year in Romania, through its local electricity and gas distributors E.ON Moldova Distributie and E.ON Gaz Distributie, respectively.

E.ON’s power and natural gas sales totaled EUR1.02 billion last year, up from EUR1 billion in 2006.
