Over 75% Cars Tested In Bucharest Likely To Cause Accidents Due To Technical Deficiencies

Over 75% of the 3,759 cars checked in traffic in Bucharest and Ilfov, southern Romania, by the Romanian Auto Registry between January and mid November 2008 do not comply with traffic safety standards, the institution said.

Following 423 check-ups, 37.7% of the total number of cars are likely to cause accidents anytime, the statistics of the Auto Registry show.

With regard to polluting emissions, 34.3% of the total number of cars did not comply with the norms imposed for the respective cars.

On the other hand, 5.3% of the total number of checked cars were found with irregularities regarding identification.

With respect to engines, most problems were found with cars on gas engine, as 38.9% showed irregularities, while 20.8% vehicles using diesel fuel had deficiencies.

The car traffic check-up is part of a protocol of collaboration between the Romanian Traffic Police and the Romanian Auto Registry, seeking to reduce factors causing traffic accidents with severe consequences because of technical deficiencies in cars.
