"The unionist delegation was led by Radu Dumitru Maximilian Minea, who proposed a separate budget for research starting with 2010," according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Public Finance.

At the same time, the finance minister asked for a briefing on the funds allotted to research so far, the programs unfolding in this area, the organizational structure and the staff involved in research in Romania.

The two parties will meet again between February 16 and 21 to analyze the situation and set a program of measures.

Some 300 members of the union federation left Monday morning on a protest march on the route between the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation and the Government, displeased with the budget given to research this year.
