Romanian Clunkers Program To Continue In 2010 – PM

Early this year, the Government decided to increase the number of cars scrapped in the national car park renewal program to 60,000 units, compared to 40,000 units in 2008. The scrapping bonus was also increased to 3,800 lei (EUR1=RON4.2099), from RON3,000.

In June this year, the Government decided to extend the country’s clunkers program by including light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tons and lifting restrictions for cars purchased by private individuals.

The budget for this year’s program is RON228 million.

The Environment Fund Administration recently said that 32,327 cars older than ten years were scrapped in the 2009 edition of the clunkers program.
