The program, carried out by local authorities with funds from the state budget, would have concluded at the end of the year. The Government has decided to extend the program through an emergency ordinance.

According to the ordinance, the total amount allotted to the program is RON4 billion, of which RON525 million is intended for the construction of sports bases. The goal is to build at least 1,000 bases, as of the second half of 2007. The ordinance approved by the former Government set the program’s goal at 500 bases to be constructed within two years.

Early this year, the Government allotted RON662 million, VAT money, to local authorities in rural areas for projects developing infrastructure and building sport bases.
