“I want a thorough inspection of the situation regarding the production of electricity, coal supply and existing supplies. (…) I am very interested to find out why the management of the Hunedoara Energy Complex was not able to pay salaries as would be normal,” the minister said in the statement.

The decision comes as approximately 200 employees of the Mintia Power Plant refused to start their morning shift on Monday, protesting unpaid salaries. Union leaders stated that employees were supposed to receive their pay on December 30, adding that they also have to work with insufficient coal stocks.

At the beginning of the year, the city of Petrosani in Hunedoara county was left without centralized heating or running hot water due to coal shortage at the Paroseni Power Plant. The Mintia Power Plant is responsible for supplying the municipality of Deva.
