Romanian Environ Min Says Car Park Renewal Program Is Going “Pretty Badly”

Romanian environment minister Nicolae Nemirschi said Wednesday the country’s car park renewal program is going “pretty badly” because of “officials who don’t know what they’re talking about”, but said he would have a better picture of the program when he gets concrete data on Monday.

"I can’t tell you much now, because I have no data, I have no exact figures and I don’t want to talk without having a clear picture. On Monday, I will receive a statistic from the Environmental Fund and I’ll be able to give you details,” Nemirschi told reporters who inquired about the car park renewal program in a press conference Wednesday.

However, Nemirschi said that, as far as he knows, the program is “going pretty badly” and blamed “officials who don’t know what they are talking about” for the situation.

Romania plans to replace 60,000 cars older than ten years in this year’s program, and owners of old cars receive a bonus of 3,800 lei (EUR1=RON4.2939) to scrap their cars.
