Romanian weather authorities issued a yellow code advisory for heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in 17 counties in the western half of the country Friday afternoon through Saturday evening.

Precipitations are seen reaching 25-30 liters per square meter and even 60-67 liters per square meter in southwestern areas.

Weather is expected to become unstable Friday afternoon, with gusty winds, thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail.

Such phenomena are also expected throughout the rest of the country, but no so widespread throughout larger regions.

Also Friday and Saturday, meteorologists expect very hot weather, with temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius, for most of the south and southeast regions of the country and the heat index, that combines air temperatures and relative humidity to determine the felt air temperature, is set to exceed the critical threshold of 80.
