Eleven Romanian Sailors Threaten To Leave Vessel Detained In Malaysia- Paper
Twelve seamen, 11 Romanians and one Filipino, stranded on a detained vessel in Malaysia for over two months are threatening to abandon ship and their captain, alleging they have not been paid wages since April, the Malaysia Star reported in its online edition Wednesday.
30 viewsThe 12-member crew is threatening to abandon the MV Prince of Ocean, anchored off Northport in Malaysia. The Panama-registered ship arrived at Northport on April 24 and was arrested by the KL Admiralty Court after the vessel had allegedly defaulted on a RM55.9mil loan it owed to British-based Postcriptum Renewable Fuels LLC.
The 11 Romanian and one Filipino crew of the Prince are claiming they had been given false hopes on their wages and their repatriation.
Second officer Gabriel Tudor, 28, said the crew are fed up with the uncertainty and afraid they will be left floating in the sea without any news.
"We have received information that the ship owner has abandoned us and there has been no communication with him since June 2. Although we have been given adequate food and the ship is in working order, we want to leave because our families are suffering," he told the paper.
Gabriel said the crew are willing to pay for their own air travel despite assurances by the ship's court appointed agent, Inchcape Shipping, that they will be sent home soon.
