Romanian Leu Up Vs Euro, Exch Rate Moves To New 12-Mo Peak At 4.1008

The Romanian leu edged higher against the euro in mid trade Monday and the central bank’s reference gained nearly 0.4% on the day to see a fresh 12-month peak at RON4.1008 versus the European currency.

A stronger rate, of RON4.072 to the euro, was registered on January 7, 2009.

For the US dollar, the indicative was set at RON2.8513, from RON2.8609 on Friday.

Romania’s leu opened at RON4.1070/RON4.1100 against the euro Monday, slightly lower on the day, but reversed trend shortly after and hit an early high at RON4.1 to the euro.

At around GMT1100, the leu traded at RON4.1025/RON4.1050 per euro.

On the money market Monday, overnight rates were down on the day at 3.32%-3.82% a year, on liquidity surplus.
