Employees Of Romania’s Disbanded PM Chancellery Get Layoff Notifications

Sebastian Oprescu, head of the National Union of Public Servants, discussed the issue Friday with the government’s secretary general, and told MEDIAFAX that the government urged all ministries to look into the possibility of hiring the 83 public servants in vacant positions.

According to Oprescu, the ministries will inform the government secretariat on the number of vacancies next week.

The Prime Minister’s Chancellery was recently disbanded after its organizational chart was reduced to 144-154 employees from previous 304.

Late February, government sources told MEDIAFAX that about 40-50% of jobs within the Chancellery would be canned and the institution would only keep about 150 employees. The sources said all department heads within the Chancellery and the Secretariat General were required to see if they have any extra staff and employees were required to submit activity reports.

Talks between Chancellery officials and unionists, to decide on further severance pay, started in February and are yet to bring concrete results.
