Boagiu visited the highway’s construction site on Wednesday. „The good news is that work on the Cernavoda- Medgidia section has begun, meaning our decision to terminate the contract with Colas was not only very good financially, as the winning bid was EUR60 million lower, but construction is on time,” she said.
The contract for the Cernavoda- Medgidia section was initially awarded to French company Colas, but was terminated by the ministry earlier this year. A new auction was held, won by consortium Astaldi- Max Boegl, which is also building the Medgidia- Constanta section.
Before going to see the site of the Cernavoda- Medgidia section, Boagiu visited the bridge over the Cernavoda lock, which was opened for traffic last week. The minister said she was pleased the bridge’s rehabilitation, which begun on January 10, 2011, was completed ahead of its deadline of November 2013.
