Responding to claims made by Dancila counsellor Darius Valcov the previous day, that she “lied through omission” on previous ocassions when she criticized Dancila, the commissioner said that this was not the first the Romanian Government launched attacks against the European Commission, pointing out that the executive did not delimit itself from such stances.
“Last night, not only I was attacked, but also the European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker (…) I would invite the Prime Minister to make these specifications, if all these attacks towards the European Commission, are the official stance of the Romanian state, because I did not see any delimitation or rebuttal,” said the EU commissioner.
Cretu also criticized the government’s intention to use public-private partnerships for its upcoming grand infrastructure projects, instead of opting for EU funds. According to her, the Commission only recommends using this financing method following consultancy from international financial institutions.
“Politicization is detrimental to Romanian citizens (…) I make an appeal for the Romanian Government, for those with attributions, to channel their energies not onto personal attacks, but to find solutions for Romania’s problems,” the commissioner concluded.
EU Regional Policy Commissioner Corina Cretu took part on Monday at the inauguration of the “Centennial Bridge,” in the city of Oradea.
