EU Jus Commissioner Aware Of Romania’s Resolution To Continue Reform-Min
Melescanu said he had talks with Frattini on the evolution of the Romanian justice reform and that he read the draft on the country report the European Commission is to publish in the next few days.
The report is not an evaluation report of the Romanian justice system per se, Melescanu said, as it only presents the country’s progress in the field and the steps to be taken in the future.
Until the “real” evaluation report of the European Commission, to be presented in June, the Romanian authorities should set their next priorities based on the recommendations in the first report, Melescanu said.
He mentioned the country report on justice which will be made public shortly will be “neither positive, nor negative.”
As to the June report, Melescanu said he cannot speak for his successor, but that he does not believe the European officials would activate the safeguard clause in the field.
