EU Says Romanian Gas Should Be 70% More Expensive

This alignment needs to be performed gradually, from the moment when EU accession negotiations are concluded until 2008, but for two years now, Romanian authorities have done very little in this respect. This might make the price hike jolt much stronger on the Romanian market.

Thus, in 2008, the price for local production is $180 per thousand cubic meters, while the European market applies a price around $300 per thousand cubic meters.

Brussels says that Romania applies low prices and that an European producer could not successfully compete on the local market.
